For the past year, I was caring for an 86-year-old man with Alzheimer's. I cared for him in his home. His wife still lived there with him, but he required 24/7 care and she needed her own time for herself. I rotated shifts with two other caregivers. I worked Mon./Wed. evenings and every other Saturday/Sunday. I would cook meals, take walks with him, watch movies/golf or whatever peaked his interest. I helped with bathing/showers/dressing and did light housekeeping and laundry. I truly loved this man as if he were my own father. Sadly, due to scheduling conflicts, I am no longer caring for him. I began caring for an 86-year-old women with stage 6 Alzheimer's. I did this on a live in basis every other weekend. My responsibilities included; shower, oral care, dressing, preparing meals, administering meds., assist with walking to/from areas in the home, activities with her, and overall care for her.
