Dora was a caregiver to our son, M., who has autism and is also medically fragile. She is a dedicated and extremely reliable worker. Dora was responsible for preparing meals for my son - which wasn't easy since he has a ton of food allergies - and they were always healthy and delicious. She was also responsible for helping M. perform his daily hygiene routine and getting dressed/undressed. It is common for autistic children to become over-reliant on their caregivers but Dora knew how to offer the appropriate amount of help and when. If she knew my son needed help with a specific task, she stepped in to help and when she know my son was capable of completing a task, or some part of a task himself, she faded out her assistance but never her supervision. Dora was also in charge of seeing to it that M. was available and prepared for all of his therapy appointments - which were many throughout the week! And when M. had some free time, Dora was sure to see to it that he was engaged in an appropriate activity -not just left to his own, self-stimulatory behaviors. Dora also administered medication for M. - both on a daily and as-needed basis. Dora provided care for our son for many years and really became part of our family. We were very blessed to have her as long as we did - she would be an asset to any family requiring care for a loved one.
