About Karen

My name is Karen and I'm a homeschooling mother of three grown children. Although I hold an Early Childhood Education degree and have worked as a therapeutic foster parent for the last eight years, I enjoy interacting and caring for people of all ages. I grew up near my grandparent's retirement home where I helped entertain an older aunt who had cerebral palsy and developmental delays. We spent many happy hours talking and playing board games together. I also helped her with chores around the house. When I was older, I helped do her shopping and errands. In high school, I volunteered in a TESOL class and had the privilege of teaching English to a 70-year-old woman had been isolated because she was unable to communicate with anyone outside of her own family since she immigrated to America. As her English improved, she told me about her fascinating life and the experiences she had. I believe older people have a great deal to teach younger people as they interact together.
