I have had the privilege of families inviting me into their homes for the last 15 years for assistance. As much as I know that I have helped, I have to thank them also for the teachings and kindness they have shown me along the way. I have the understanding and patience to help a family member that has dementia. I've learned it's not only the obvious, but also the little details that you can pick up on. From sounds to maybe a shoe or sock not properly in place or even the way that the water in the shower is running over them. Everybody has their own routine and most of the time it's best to stick to that:) I've worked with family members that have ALS and Parkinson's disease amongst other needs. I can help with transfers, showers and other ADL's. Most importantly I understand the need for compassion, time and comfort not only for the family member needing care, but also for the family themselves.
