Life threw me a huge curve ball where my Aunt who was suffering from dementia lost her husband to cancer in August 2021. It was a shock to find how far she had deteriorated mentally since Christmas 2019. I found her to then have full Alzheimer's. She was clearly unable to care for herself, and I was her only surviving family, I did what was needed and moved her into my home. At first I tried caring for her all myself. I then used a service for two years with mixed results. We had some ladies that were very good, attentive and caring, while others did the very minimum possible while being less than reliable to even show. I contacted Marilyn during Christmas Holidays about coming and helping as my Aunt was becoming permanently bedridden. At that time I was needing some rather long and varying shifts. She notified me that her sister also was a caregiver. At that time I was needing care from Fridays around 9-10am all the way through until Mondays around 6pm. Marilyn said her and her sister could basically work different shifts so I never had a time where we were without someone here to care for her. They both were such blessings for my Aunt to have caring for her. They were experienced with handling Alzheimer's/ Dementia patients. They made life so much less stressful. We were comfortable enough that we could take weekend trips without worrying at all. We agreed on a hourly wage that is significantly less than what Visiting Angels charged, while both far exceeding any expectations anyone could ever have. Marilyn is so great, even now with my Aunt approaching her final days. She sits with her, holds her hand and keeps her at ease. My only regret throughout this experience is that I didn't find Marilyn sooner. I can not come up with words to express how much I appreciate the love and care they have given.
