About Pat

I have provided in-home support services to seniors for the past two years. I really enjoy learning what I can do to make the care receiver's day-to-day life be as comfortable and interesting as possible. For example, one of my past experiences was with a man who had Alzheimer's and we would spend a 10 hour day together while his wife was at work. Filling his day was a challenge until I realized he wanted to work with his hands and we started refinishing furniture. Friends would give me small wooden items and we would sand and repaint, and then donate the item. The man could work as much, or as little, as was possible for him and the physical presence of the ongoing project gave us a joint focus to relate to. His wife was very pleased with this plan as she felt he was more "settled" at the end of the day. I use this as an example of how I approach each client with a curiosity to get to know what their interests are and how I can best support them.
